Bathroom Reimagined
Bathroom Transformation Wins Awards Bathroom Reimagined - New York City
Paris Kostopoulos and Tina Psoinos of Paris K Design were challenged to completely redesign and renovate a 7th floor New York City apartment. The redesign required them to turn an existing cramped bathroom and small kitchen into a new guest bathroom and powder room. They chose Geberit in-wall systems with Sigma30 flush actuators for both rooms, maximizing usable space and making the most of the apartment’s existing structure.
The Challenge
The owners of a New York apartment needed a new powder room and a new, full guest bath to accommodate a growing family and visiting friends and relatives. According to designer Paris Kostopoulos, the entire apartment had to be reimagined. Part of the challenge involved removing the existing small pullman-style kitchen and small bath and turning them into a comfortable, 60-square-foot full bath with an adjoining powder room.
“From the beginning, providing a solution to transform the old kitchen to a new full bath and powder room within the apartment’s parameters was exciting as well as formidable. We knew we had to demolish the kitchen walls and rebuild access to the area,” says Kostopoulos. “The apartment’s plumbing had to be redesigned and repositioned to facilitate the new and shifted location of the bathroom.”
The Solution
Kostopoulos and Psoinos were able to position the slim in-wall Geberit 2x4 in-wall toilet systems exactly as needed to accommodate the complexity of the plumbing and electrical lines. They combined the Geberit in-wall system with a Duravit Starck wall-hung toilet and SensoWash® Smart Seat in both the full bath and powder room. Space-saving, wall-hung Duravit Happy D vanities in walnut finish complete the look.
“Geberit in-wall systems helped us meet some unique space challenges to transform the apartment’s small kitchen and powder room into a comfortably laid out full guest bath and an additional powder room for a growing family.” – Paris Kostopoulos, Designer
“Because we could remove the existing kitchen and create the new space-saving full bath and powder room with Geberit, we were also able to create a large family-style kitchen nearby,” Kostopoulos says. “The Geberit system in the new full bath, the prior kitchen, was installed in an existing wall with the wall-hung toilet, saving us time, money, and labor.”
“We chose the elegant lines of Geberit Sigma30 dual-flush, water-saving, gloss-white actuator with gold-plated trim to match the California satin-gold bathroom fixtures. Together they complement the large Florim Timeless Amani grey matte porcelain tile used on the floors and walls. We chose this trendy tile because of its color and large size, and it uses less grout to install and to clean.”
“Another beneficial feature,” says Kostopoulos, “is that the Geberit system positions the toilet off the floor, making it easy to clean – which is especially important as our client has two young boys – and the design freedom to choose the height of the toilet. We were able to set it at a comfortable level for our client’s parents in the new guest room.”
The Geberit 2x4 wall-hung system also gave the designers freedom to choose a toilet bowl from any leading manufacturer and the additional design space to create exciting designs in the new full bath and powder room. The integral non-reflective lighting, the trendy large tile, and the water-saving in-wall Geberit dual-flush system combine to make this bathroom and the designers “double” award winners with Geberit.
